Christians in India trace their faith to the Apostle Thomas, who brought the Gospel to its shores nearly 2,000 years ago. Today they are under attack on two fronts: a ruling party that turns the law against them, and radical mobs that beat, burn, and drive them out with impunity. Both serve the same ideology: Hindutva, or Hindu supremacy.

Mission

To support and defend Christian communities in India and advocate for an end to the laws and mob violence that criminalize their faith and threaten their churches, schools, and families.

Purpose

To amplify the voices of India’s Christians, confront Hindutva lawfare and violence with moral clarity, and mobilize people of conscience to stand with one of the world’s largest persecuted Christian communities.

01 / THE LAW

Lawfare.

Thirteen states have adopted laws restricting religious conversion. Chhattisgarh’s new law makes prohibited conversions non-bailable, while exempting reconversion to an ancestral religion. Nearly 22,000 organizations, including Christian charities, have lost the licenses they need to receive foreign donations since 2010. A bill before Parliament would allow a government-appointed authority to take control of assets after organizations lose, surrender, or fail to renew those licenses, raising fears for church schools, hospitals, and hostels.

02 / THE STREET

Mob violence.

Radical mobs storm prayer meetings, beat pastors, and block Christian burials. In Odisha, a body was dug up and reportedly burned after the family refused to renounce Christianity. Accountability remains elusive: the United Christian Forum recorded 579 incidents in the first nine months of 2025, but only 39 police cases were registered.

Religious freedom
itself is on trial.

What is happening in India is not a local dispute or an internal political matter. It is the systematic criminalization of Christian life in the world’s most populous nation, carried out through courtrooms and police stations as much as by mobs in the street. When a government exempts one faith from the laws it uses to jail another, and when families cannot bury their dead without fear, religious freedom itself is on trial.

To stand with India’s Christians is to stand for human dignity, the rule of law, and the protection of believers whose survival depends on the world refusing to look away.

We ask you to use every appropriate diplomatic, legislative, and economic means available to defend Christians and other persecuted minorities in India.

Every person has the right to practice, share, or change their faith without fear of violence, imprisonment, discrimination, or forced displacement.

Urge India’s national and state authorities to protect churches, schools, hospitals, homes, and burial grounds; investigate attacks and hold perpetrators accountable; release those imprisoned for peaceful religious activity; and end the use of anti-conversion laws and foreign-funding restrictions to punish religious communities and the people they serve.

Listen directly to affected communities, raise their concerns in official meetings, and make respect for religious freedom a consistent priority in relations with India.

We stand with India’s Christians and all who face persecution. Their dignity is inviolable. Their freedom must be defended. Please use your office to act.
